Football Roundup: Denver Edge Struggling Jets in Low-Scoring Affair
In a low-scoring contest on Sunday, the Denver Broncos clinched a 13-11 victory over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix threw an early scoring strike and kicker Wil Lutz provided the late decisive three-pointer to secure the ugly win.
Dominant Display Seals Contest
Even with recording nine sacks versus Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 after conceding a safety in the third quarter. Interestingly, the Jets managed just 82 total net yards during the contest.
The Denver quarterback, who completed 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, led a critical 12-play, 65-yard drive that ended with Lutz's 27-yard field goal with approximately five minutes remaining.
Historic Difficulties for Jets Attack
In spite of their dismal performance, the Jets still had the ball with a opportunity to drive for a potential winning score. However Fields was sacked on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn chose to go for it instead of calling on kicker Nick Folk for a long kick.
The Jets quarterback struggled throughout, completing just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. New York ended up with negative ten net yards passing, the lowest in any game since 1998.
"The aerial attack was non-existent," Glenn commented after the game.
